Saint Paul's Cathedral, London,
in the smog of the industrial revolution
by David Roberts, 1863.
"They shall return my friend. They will return again, all over the earth. They are returning again. Ancient Beings of the Earth, ancient Songs of the Earth. I give them to you and through them you will understand, you will see. They are returning again, upon the Earth.
Upon suffering beyond suffering, the Red Nation shall rise again. It will be a blessing for a sick world, a world longing for the light again.
I see a time, long after the skies have grown dark and dirty and the water has become bad smelling. I see a time of seven generations when all the colours of mankind will gather under the Sacred Tree of Life and one whole Earth will become one circle again.
I salute the light within your eyes where the whole Universe dwells. For when you are at that center within you and I within mine, we shall be as one."
spoken by Crazy Horse four days before his death, in 1877. source
the Web of Power
We are creatures of energy. Science has found "Dark Energy", powerful forces that can only be measured in the expansion of the Universe, but represent the majority (perhaps the vast majority) of all energy in existence. Perhaps these are the first steps in revealing the energetic basis of life, the deeper self that mystics have cultivated since before recorded history.
This energy can be described as pure, overflowing creativity.

- Lead Guitarist for the Grateful Dead and Acid Philosopher
- "Our Consciousness concerning music is opening up more, so the music is becoming. . . is having more facets than it seemed to, having more dimensions . . . and we've also seen the effect of - all of a sudden we find a certain kind of feeling or a certain kind of rhythm and the whole place is like a sea and it goes boom . . . boom . . . boom"

- The actor as shaman
- Our modern entertainment industry on occasion can move the watcher emotionally, or bring a new perspective. Much more often entertainment serves to hide us from real life, bluntly - a life so dull and seemingly meaningless the soul cringes away from it. It was not always thus. Sacred Drama and Mystery Plays were performed to bring the audience and the actors to deep spiritual connection, to act out the great themes of life and expose the true forces within and without us that shape our world.

- Osho (formerly Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh)
- A philosophy professor in India, Rajneesh attracted a very large following for his intense insight into a wide variety of spiritual paths, each of which he explained in simple language and (often dirty) jokes. His Ashrams continue to be fountainheads of exploration and healing.
- "When the energy is just at the center, pulsating, when it is not moving anywhere, neither in the head nor in the heart, but it is at the very source from where the heart takes it, the head takes it, pulsating at the very source--"

- Trance Dance
- In future ages, assuming there are future ages, this western culture will be remembered, not only for the massive destruction we have created, but for our lack of passion. It's hard to imagine a civilization so dull - with our 9 to 5 little jobs, our beer and pills, our TV to do our living for us.

- Lama Govinda a German born Tantric monk:
- "It is the deadly sameness of machine-made things and of a life governed by technology which perverts the mind and kills the spirit. Infinite variety is the hallmark of the creative genius; sameness the hallmark of mediocrity and decadence. The symbol of the machine is the wheel. The machine-wheel is the symbol of Samsara, of ever-recurring birth and death, of the inescapable law of existence ... But there is another wheel, an invisible one, which does not revolve but which radiates and pervades every form of life. It is the Dharma-Cakra and he who realizes it, realizes his universality and the infinite relationship of all things and forms of appearance, without denying their relative existence and value."

- Ram Dass (Dr. Richard Alpert)
- A Harvard professor who experimented with LSD in the early 1960's. Richard soon journeyed to India where he found similar substances had long been used in spiritual practices. The knowledge he gained helped him, with friends, to write "Be Here Now", still the most important beginners' guidebook to psychedelics and consciousness.

The temple at Philae, Egypt.
by David Roberts, 1838.
... skies upon skies are available for your flight. Don't be content easily. Those who remain content easily remain small: small are their joys, small are their ecstasies, small are their silences, small is their being. But there is no need! This smallness is your own imposition upon your freedom, upon your unlimited possibilities, upon your unlimited potential.
